Springfield, Mass. – February 27, 2018 – UW-La Crosse’s Samantha Wiekamp (Clear Lake, S.D.) and Hamline’s Alyssa Huch (Columbia, Ill.) have been recognized for their impressive performances this past week, as the duo earned Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Gymnast of the Week honors.
Wiekamp, a senior at UW-La Crosse, was named the WIAC All-Around Gymnast of the Week, while Huch garnered WIAC Specialist of the Week honors.
Wiekamp captured the all-around (38.225) and placed second on the vault (9.700) in UWL’s dual victory at UW-Whitewater February 24. She set a season-high with her score in the all-around. UWL set season-highs for overall (192.125) and uneven parallel bars (48.225) in the dual.
Competing on Senior Night in her last home meet on Feb. 25, Hutch posted her season’s best performance. In a 184.775-179.525 win over Gustavus Adolphus College (Minn.), she competed in two events, placing first on the vault with 9.475 and second on the uneven bars with 9.250.
