Springfield, Mass. – January 17, 2016 – Springfield College’s Jessica Clemens (South Setauket, N.Y.) and Brockport’s Jen Sklenar (Canfield, Ohio) have been recognized for their impressive performances to start the season, as each earned National Collegiate Gymnastics Association (NCGA) East Gymnast of the Week honors, announced by the conference office on Tuesday afternoon.
Clemens, a sophomore Sports Biology major at Springfield College, was named the NCGA East All-Around Gymnast of the Week following a terrific performance this past Sunday in a quad meet with RIC, Brockport and Ithaca. Clemens won the All-Around competition with a career-best score of 37.575, including an individual victory on the uneven bars with a career-high score of 9.600, and a fourth-place finish on the balance beam with an identical mark of 9.600. The sophomore also notched a 9.425 on vault and an 8.950 on her floor routine on the afternoon.
Sklenar, the NCGA East Specialist of the Week, led the Golden Eagles in a strong season-opening week, where the Green and Gold picked up a dual-meet victory over Cortland, and a first-place finish in a quad meet with Ithaca, RIC and Springfield. Brockport opened the week with a strong 185.30-183.75 win over rivals SUNY Cortland, where Sklenar picked up a second place finish on the bars with a score of 9.300. The senior completed the event circuit on Sunday in the Golden Eagles first-place finish in a quad meet against hosts Rhode Island College, Ithaca College and Springfield College. Sklenar picked up two first-place finishes on the beam and the floor, with scores of 9.675 and 9.40 respectively. The Canfield, Ohio native also snagged a second place finish on the vault, with a 9.475.
