Springfield, Mass. – January 29, 2018 – Springfield College’s Jess Clemens (South Setauket, N.Y.) and Cortland’s Bailey Gildemeyer (Liverpool, N.Y.) have been recognized for their impressive performances this past weekend, as the duo cleaned up National Collegiate Gymnastics Association (NCGA) East Gymnast of the Week honors, announced on Monday.
Clemens was tabbed the NCGA East All-Around Gymnast of the Week for the second time in three weeks, while Gildemeyer was named the NCGA East Specialist of the Week.
Clemens, a standout junior for Springfield College, had an impressive meet this past Saturday, as she helped the Pride to a season-high team score of 188.300, including a program-record score of 48.575 in the floor exercise rotation. Competing against Division-I Brown, Division-II Southern Connecticut and Brockport, Clemens produced a career-best 38.175 to win the all-around competition, as her performance was highlighted by a career-high 9.775 in the floor exercise. Additionally, Clemens posted a 9.375 on vault, 9.575 on the uneven bars and 9.450 on the balance beam.
Gildemeyer tied the school record on balance beam with her winning score of 9.825 in Cortland’s tri-meet at Division II West Chester University that also featured Rhode Island College. She helped the Red Dragons post a team balance beam score of 48.35 that is the third-best in school history. Gildemeyer also finished fifth out of 17 on vault with a 9.525 and tied for fifth of 18 on floor with a 9.55 as Cortland finished second with a season-high 185.35.
