Madison, Wis. – February 5, 2019 – Ally Blixt (Maplewood, Minn.) of the University of Wisconsin – La Crosse and Mikala Bugge (Oakdale, Minn.) of the University of Wisconsin – Stout have been recognized by the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC), as the duo earned Gymnast of the Week honors, announced on Tuesday.
Blixt was named the WIAC Specialist of the Week after season-best performance, while Bugge was the WIAC All-Around Gymnast of the Week after leading the Blue Devils to victory at the John Zuerlein Invitational.
Blixt set three season-bests at the UW-La Crosse Gershon/McLellan Invitational on Feb. 1. She tied for second on the balance beam (9.650) and tied for fourth on the vault (9.375). Blixt was also eighth on the floor exercise (9.375) as UW-La Crosse placed second as a team in the meet featuring UW-Whitewater and NCAA Division I United States Air Force Academy.
Bugge won the all-around event with a score of 37.500 at the John Zuerlein Invitational hosted by UW-Stout on Feb. 1. She took first in the floor exercise with a career-best score of 9.725, tied for first on the vault (9.60), was seventh on uneven bars (8.90) and 11th on the balance beam (9.275). Bugge’s 37.500 was the second-best all-around score for her career.
