Springfield, Mass. – February 25, 2019 – Seniors Heather Gomes (Beverly, Mass.) and Jess Clemens (South Setauket, N.Y.) were honored for their impressive performances this past weekend, as the duo swept the National Collegiate Gymnastics Association (NCGA) East Gymnast of the Week honors, announced on Monday.
Gomes earned NCGA East Specialist of the Week honors following Sunday’s meet at Cortland, while Clemens was named the NCGA East All-Around Gymnast of the Week for the second time this season.
Gomes, a senior for Springfield College, was outstanding for the Pride in three events this past weekend, as the maroon and white posted a 187.225 at Cortland, contributing to the women’s gymnastics program being ranked No. 5 in all of Division III. Gomes’ best mark of the day came in the floor exercise, as she tied for first with a career-best 9.650, while she also took fourth on vault with a 9.450, and fourth overall on the balance beam with a 9.475. Her beam score was the second-best on the Pride this past Sunday, as she also posted Springfield’s second-best vault of the day.
Clemens, a senior for Springfield College, won the all-around competition at Cortland this past weekend with a combined score of 37.500. The Sports Biology major’s best score of the day came on floor, as she produced a 9.475, and followed with a 9.425 on the balance beam. Clemens started the afternoon on the uneven bars, and led the Pride with a 9.300, while she also recorded a 9.300 on vault. Clemens’ all-around title contributed to Springfield College posting a 187.225, ranking them No. 5 in all of Division III.
