Springfield, Mass. – February 6, 2017 – Senior Jen Sklenar (Canfield, Ohio) and sophomore Candis Kowalik (Warwick, R.I.) of Brockport have been recognized for their impressive performances this past week, as the duo swept National Collegiate Gymnastics Association (NCGA) East Gymnast of the Week honors, announced on Monday afternoon.
Sklenar earned All-Around Gymnast of the Week honors for the first time this season, while Kowalik picked up Specialist of the Week recognition for the second time this year.
In the first all-around performance of her collegiate career and the first for Brockport since 2013, Jen Sklenar scored an impressive 38.275 this past Saturday in a dual meet against Ithaca. The senior claimed first place on the beam with a score of 9.650, while also picking up a pair of third-place finishes on vault (9.525) and in the floor exercise (9.600). The senior rounded out the meet on the uneven bars, taking fourth overall with a 9.500.
Candis Kowalik continued her strong sophomore campaign, with a first, second and third place finish in Brockport’s win over Ithaca College. Kowalik’s best showing came on the floor, where she tied her season high, a 9.700. She scored a 9.550 on the vault, earning second and a 9.650 on the beam for third.
