Eau Claire, Wis. – May 16, 2018 – The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire athletics department announced late last week the hiring of Danielle Schulzetenberg as the head gymnastics coach.
Schulzetenberg, who was the Co-Head Coach with Jean DeLisle this past season, will take the helm following DeLisle’s retirement.
“I would like to thank Director of Athletics Dan Schumacher and the athletic department for this amazing opportunity,” said Schulzetenberg. “I am excited to build on the Blugold gymnastics legacy that [former coaches] Mary Mero, Jean DeLisle, and all those before have created and worked hard to maintain.”
Schulzetenberg competed for the Blugolds from 2009-10 to 2012-13 and left her mark on the program’s record books. She still holds the school record on the floor exercise (9.825) and has the third-best score on beam and sixth-best on vault. The Maple Grove, Minn. native also was a part of the highest team scores in program history for vault and floor exercise.
Schulzetenberg was a two-time WIAC Champion (floor exercise and balance beam) and seven-time All-American (beam and all-round in 2010, vault and all-round in 2011, floor exercise, all-around in 2012 and all-round in 2013). She was also named to the NCGA All-Academic team in 2013.
“We are excited to have Coach Schulzetenberg take over the women’s gymnastics program,” said Schumacher. “As an alum and former assistant coach, she is truly passionate about Blugold gymnastics.”
