Springfield, Mass. – January 30, 2017 – Ursinus College’s Alexandra Puryear (Cranford, N.J.) and SUNY Brockport’s Jen Sklenar (Canfield, Ohio) have been recognized for their outstanding performances this past week, as the duo earned National Collegiate Gymnastics Association (NCGA) East Gymnast of the Week honors, announced on Monday afternoon.
Puryear, a junior for the Ursinus College Bears, was impressive in her first career all-around meet, scoring a 38.175 in Saturday’s meet at Rutgers. Puryear earned a 9.750 on the floor, a 9.700 on the beam, a 9.525 on the vault, and a 9.200 on the bars to help the Bears post a 191.350 team score, the highest in Division III this season. Puryear’s scores in all four events were season highs.
Sklenar, a senior for Brockport, had a strong week for the Golden Eagles, as Brockport bypassed Springfield College by a score of 190.975-184.200. The senior picked up a pair first place finishes on both the vault and the balance beam and took second overall in the floor exercise. The senior’s meet high score came on the floor, where she registered a 9.750 before taking a pair of first-place finishes in the vault with a score of 9.675 and on the beam with a score of 9.650. This marks the second time this season that Sklenar has been named the NCGA East Specialist of the Week.
