Madison, Wis. – January 17, 2018 – Wisconsin-Whitewater’s Lisa O’Donnell (Berwyn, Ill.) and Lewa Evans (Milwaukee, Wis.) have been recognized for their impressive performances last week, as the tandem earned Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Gymnast of the Week honors, announced on Wednesday afternoon.
O’Donnell, the defending NCGA All-Around national champion, was named the WIAC All-Around Gymnast of the Week, while Evans collected WIAC Specialist of the Week honors.
O’Donnell won the all-around and claimed first place in three different events to lead the Warhawks to a 186.850-185.175 victory at Hamline University (Minn.) on Jan. 14. Two days earlier, she won two events and finished second in the all-around competition in a 188.175-183.500 triumph at UW-Eau Claire. Against Hamline, O’Donnell tied the No. 18 mark in program history with a 38.300 thanks to wins on the uneven parallel bars (9.650), floor exercise (9.725) and balance beam (9.550). Her performance in the floor exercise helped UW-Whitewater post the ninth-best team score in the event in program history. In the meet at UW-Eau Claire, O’Donnell placed first in the floor exercise with a 9.600 and first on bars with a 9.550, and finished with a 37.125 in the all-around.
Evans won the vault during two away meets during the week to help the Warhawks to a 2-0 record. In UW-Whitewater’s 188.175-183.500 victory at UW-Eau Claire on Jan. 12, she tied for first with a 9.600 to help the team total a 47.375. During the team’s 186.850-185.175 triumph at Hamline University (Minn.) on Jan. 13, she scored a 9.500 to lead all competitors and help the Warhawks post a 47.025 on the apparatus. Evans also tied for third in the floor exercise with a 9.650 to help UW-Whitewater record a 48.250 in the event, the ninth-highest score in program history.
