Madison, Wis. – January 29, 2019 – Seniors Amanda Malo (Greenwood, Minn.) and Samantha Ardy (Thousand Oaks, Calif.) of the Gustavus Adolphus women’s gymnastics team have been recognized for their impressive performances last weekend, as the duo hauled in Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Gymnast of the Week honors, announced on Tuesday afternoon.
Malo was named the WIAC Specialist of the Week, while Ardy was recognized as the WIAC All-Around Gymnast of the Week.
Malo was a huge contributor to the Golden Gusties during a double meet week. In a dual meet against Winona State University (Minn.) on Jan. 22, Malo helped lead the Gusties to victory. She won floor exercise (9.400), placed second on the uneven bars (9.250) and placed second on the balance beam (9.025). At the UW-Whitewater Triangular on Jan. 26, she posted a season-high score to claim her first victory on the uneven bars. Additionally, she placed sixth on vault with a team high 9.250, and sixth on the floor exercise with a team-high 9.450. Malo’s efforts helped the Gusties to their highest team score of the week.
In a dual against Winona State University (Minn.) on Jan. 22, Ardy placed first on two events. She won the uneven bars with a then season high 9.350 and won the balance beam with a season-high score of 9.125. She helped Gustavus edge out Winona State for a dual-meet victory. On Jan. 26, in a triangular against UW-Whitewater and Winona State, Ardy led the Gusties winning the all-around competition with a career high 37.425. Ardy placed seventh on vault with a 9.225, second on the uneven bars with a 9.425, fifth on the balance beam with a 9.425, and eighth on the floor exercise with a 9.350. Her uneven bars, balance beam, and floor exercise scores are all season-highs. Ardy’s effort helped the Gusties to the highest team total of the week.
