Springfield, Mass. – January 22, 2019 – Eleanor LaFountain (Biddeford, Maine) of Ursinus College, and Rachel Filipski (Lancaster, N.Y.) of Cortland were honored for their impressive performances this past weekend, as they each earned National Collegiate Gymnastics Association (NCGA) East Gymnast of the Week honors, announced on Tuesday afternoon.
Both competing against Division I or Division II opponents, LaFountain garnered NCGA East All-Around Gymnast of the Week honors, while Filipski was recognized as the NCGA East Specialist of the Week.
LaFountain put together an impressive all-around score of 37.175 in Sunday’s dual meet at West Chester. She placed third with a 9.675 on the floor and scored a 9.425 on the beam and a 9.300 on the vault. LaFountain’s all-around score was a personal best.
Filipski tied for eighth place out of 18 competitors (and was Cortland’s top finisher) on vault with a 9.675 against two Division I schools in a tri-meet with Air Force Academy and West Virginia University, hosted by Air Force. Filipski was also Cortland’s second-best performer (12th overall) on floor with a 9.50 and placed 16th on beam with an 8.625.
