Springfield, Mass. – February 4, 2019 – Ithaca’s Katie Holcomb (Chicago, Ill.) and Brockport’s Candis Kowalik (Warwick, R.I.) were recognized for their impressive performances this past weekend, as the duo earned National Collegiate Gymnastics Association (NCGA) East Gymnast of the Week honors, announced on Monday afternoon.
Holcomb was selected as the NCGA East Specialist of the Week, while Kowalik was named the NCGA East All-Around Gymnast of the Week.
Holcomb headlined a strong showing by the Ithaca College gymnastics team in a tri-meet at Brockport this past weekend. The sophomore finished in a tie for second-place in two different events, posting a career best on uneven bars with a 9.375 and adding season-high 9.675 on balance beam. Holcomb currently ranks sixth among Division III gymnasts on the balance beam, averaging a 9.550 over three competition performances thus far.
Kowalik continued her impressive senior season in the team’s first home meet last Saturday where she posted two first place finishes on the vault and the beam, enough to secure her the highest All-Around score of the weekend with 38.350, the next closest gymnast at 35.625. Her strong showing allowed the senior to grab a new personal record All-Around, helping the team move to 7-1 on the season.
