Madison, Wis. – January 23, 2019 – Senior Frankee Hutton-Lau (Shakopee, Minn.) and sophomore Blaise Wilson (Thornton, Colo.) of the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater women’s gymnastics team were honored for their impressive performances this past weekend, as the duo swept the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Gymnast of the Week honors, announced on Wednesday.
Hutton-Lau was named the WIAC Specialist of the Week after competing in two events against UW-Stout, while Wilson was named the WIAC All-Around Gymnast of the Week following an individual victory.
Hutton-Lau won the balance beam and placed second in the floor exercise during the team’s season-opening meet at UW-Stout on Jan. 18. She tallied a score of 9.575 on beam, more than two-tenths higher than the runner-up, and a 9.675 on floor, only five-hundredths behind teammate Blaise Wilson. Hutton-Lau’s performance helped the Warhawks record a team score of 186.000.
Wilson won the all-around competition with a score of 37.800 to help the Warhawks post a team score of 186.000 in the team’s first meet of the season at UW-Stout on Jan. 18. She tallied a personal record score of 9.725 to win the floor exercise and tied a career high with a 9.425 in vault, good for sixth place. Wilson also tied for first on the uneven bars with a 9.700 and placed 10th on the balance beam with an 8.725.
