Madison, Wis. – February 6, 2018 – UW-Eau Claire’s Tori Erickson (Woodbury, Minn.) and UW-Whitewater’s Kate Mierow (Brookfield, Wis.) have been recognized for their impressive performances this past weekend, as the duo earned Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Gymnast of the Week honors, announced on Tuesday.
Erickson was named the WIAC All-Around Gymnast of the Week, while Mierow was the WIAC Specialist of the Week.
Erickson won her second straight all-around competition at the Gershon/McLellan Invitational at UW-La Crosse on Feb. 2. Erickson, who set a new school record in the all-around last week, tallied the seventh-highest score in program history with a 37.500. She finished tied for second on the balance beam (9.550), tied for third on the floor exercise (9.600), fourth on vault (9.500) and 11th on the uneven bars (8.850).
Mierow led the Warhawks in two events and scored at least a 9.500 in each of the three events she competed in at Division I Rutgers University (N.J.), where UW-Whitewater also faced Division I Ohio State and Division II West Chester (Pa.). She recorded a career-best 9.750 on the balance beam, good for a tie for seventh overall and tied for the No. 5 result in program history, and helped the team post the fifth-best mark in program history on the apparatus. Mierow also led the team in the floor exercise with a 9.725, good for 10th overall, to help the team finish with the eighth-best score in program history (48.300). She added a score of 9.500 on the uneven parallel bars, good for a tie for 15th. Mierow’s performance helped the Warhawks record a season-high score of 191.275, good for a tie for 10th in program history.
