Springfield, Mass. – February 18, 2019 – Allie DiBiase (North Kingstown, R.I.) of Rhode Island College and Courtney Christoforo (Saco, Maine) of Ithaca College were recognized for their impressive performances this past weekend, as they earned National Collegiate Gymnastics Association (NCGA) East Gymnast of the Week honors, announced on Monday afternoon.
DiBiase was named the NCGA East All-Around Gymnast of the Week, while Christoforo was the NCGA East Specialist of the Week.
Senior Allie DiBiase posted the third highest score in program history on floor (9.675) with a 10th place finish. She also finished tied for 11th on vault (9.400), 13th on bars (9.100), and was 17th on beam (8.425) for a fourth place all-around effort (36.600). The Rhode Island College women’s gymnastics team posted their season-best score (182.825) at a tri-meet hosted by West Chester University on Friday evening.
Sophomore specialist Courtney Christoforo turned in her best performance of the 2019 season this past Sunday, registering a new career high in uneven bars during Ithaca’s season-best performance at Springfield’s Tri-Meet. While illness has impacted her routines over the past few weeks, Christoforo turned in her best mark of the season on Sunday, nailing her signature release skill over the bar and sticking her dismount to score 9.725. The performance was good for second-place overall, first among Division III gymnasts at the meet, while it was the second highest score for an individual performance in the country this season. The bars were not Christoforo’s only strong mark, as she also carded a 9.475 on vault, which was her second-best score in the event over her young career.
