Springfield, Mass. – March 6, 2017 – Springfield College’s Marissa DeAngelo (Brookfield, Conn.) and Ursinus College’s Kaelin Ruoss (Lancaster, Pa.) have been recognized for their stellar performances this past weekend, as they each received National Collegiate Gymnastics Association (NCGA) East Gymnast of the Week honors, announced Monday.
DeAngelo, a senior Physical Therapy major at Springfield College, was terrific in a dual meet against Division II Southern Connecticut State University. DeAngelo posted a winning score of 38.075 in the all-around competition, a performance that was highlighted by a 9.625 on the floor exercise, good for a tie for sixth overall, and a 9.575 on the balance beam, a score that placed her fourth in the meet. DeAngelo also posted a 9.475 on vault to tie her for second and notched a 9.400 on the uneven bars to take sixth.
Ruoss electrified the home crowd with a stunning beam routine that earned her a 9.850 in Sunday’s dual meet with Brockport State, pulling her into a tie with a program record that has stood since 2006. Ruoss also notched a career-best 9.650 on the bars to help Ursinus break the school record with a 48.100.
