Springfield, Mass. – March 13, 2017 – Springfield College’s Marissa DeAngelo (Brookfield, Conn.) and Cortland’s McKenna Passalacqua (Whitesboro, N.Y.) have been recognized for their standout performances this past weekend, as the duo earned the final National Collegiate Gymnastics Association (NCGA) East Gymnast of the Week honors, announced on Monday.
This marks the third time this season, and second-consecutive week that DeAngelo has been named the NCGA East All-Around Gymnast of the Week, while Passalacqua earns her first NCGA East Specialist of the Week honor of the year.
DeAngelo, a senior Physical Therapy major at Springfield College, was outstanding in the Pride’s regular-season finale, as she posted an all-around score of 38.450 to finish second overall in a quad meet featuring Division-I Brown University, Cortland and Rhode Island College. DeAngelo posted a 9.700 on vault to tie for third overall, a 9.400 on the uneven bars, a 9.675 on the balance beam, good for fourth, and a 9.650 in the floor exercise to tie for seventh.
Competing in a quad meet at Springfield College this past weekend, Passalacqua led the Red Dragons to a third-place finish, as the standout junior recorded a pair of top-five scores during the meet. Passalacqua notched a 9.675 on the balance beam to tie her for fourth overall, before producing a 9.725 in the floor exercise to finish fourth in the event.
