Springfield, Mass. – February 13, 2017 – Springfield College’s Marissa DeAngelo (Brookfield, Conn.) and Cortland’s Bailey Gildemeyer (Liverpool, N.Y.) have been recognized for their impressive performances this past weekend, as each earned National Collegiate Gymnastics Association (NCGA) East Gymnast of the Week honors.
DeAngelo earned NCGA East All-Around Gymnast of the Week honors, while Gildemeyer was named the NCGA East Specialist of the Week.
Marissa DeAngelo, a senior Physical Therapy major at Springfield College, broke her own program record in the all-around competition, as she notched a 38.550, surpassing her previous school record of 38.275, which she scored at the NCGA Championships last March. It was quite the afternoon for the reigning NCGA East Gymnast of the Year, as DeAngelo posted a career-best score of 9.575 on the uneven bars, 9.600 on vault, 9.700 on the balance beam, and earned a 9.675 for her floor exercise routine.
Bailey Gildemeyer, a junior for the Cortland women’s gymnastics program, tied for first on balance beam and recorded three top-four finishes overall in a dual meet at Ursinus College. Gildemeyer, a Liverpool, N.Y. native, shared top honors on beam with a career-best 9.675, before tying for third on floor exercise with a 9.600, and tying for fourth on vault with a season-high 9.450.
