Springfield, Mass. – January 28, 2019 – Springfield College’s Jess Clemens (South Setauket, N.Y.) and Brockport’s Candis Kowalik (Warwick, R.I.) have been recognized for their standout performances this past weekend, as the duo earned National Collegiate Gymnastics Association (NCGA) East Gymnast of the Week honors, announced on Monday afternoon.
After leading the Pride to a season-best team score of 186.500, Clemens was named the NCGA East All-Around Gymnast of the Week, while Kowalik earned NCGA East Specialist of the Week honors for her performance at Southern Connecticut on Sunday.
Clemens, a senior for Springfield College, had an impressive meet to lead the Pride to a season-high team score of 186.500 in a dual meet versus West Chester this past weekend. Clemens most impressive score of the day was a 9.525 on vault, which placed her fourth overall, before moving to the uneven bars, where she posted a mark of 9.475, the Pride’s best score of the day. On the beam, Clemens notched a 9.350, before wrapping up the day on the floor, where she score a 9.350. Overall, Clemens took first in the all-around competition with a 37.700.
Kowalik had strong performances in this weekend’s meet at Southern Connecticut State, where the team grabbed second place with a team score of 188.850. The senior competed in three events for the Golden Eagles, bringing home a second-place finish on the floor with a mark of 9.750, a third-place finish on the beam with a score of 9.650, and a fourth place finish on the vault, producing a score of 9.525.
