Brockport Gymnastics Wins 3rd Consecutive NCGA East Regional Title

Collegeville, PA – The Brockport Golden Eagle gymnastics team won its third consecutive NCGA East Regional Championship on Saturday. Hosted by Ursinus College, Brockport took first place with a score of 192.200 to claim the regional crown once again.
 
With an individual score of 9.800 on the vault, Sydney Schumaker earned the regional title for the event. She repeats on the vault as East Region Champion, after taking first last year with a 9.850.
 
Teammate Emma Grace Sargent also took a regional title, placing first on the uneven bars. With a 9.725 in the event she was crowned East Region Champion on the bars.
 
Completing the 3-peat as regional champions, the Golden Eagles have now how five in the last six seasons. Since 2010 they have now won eight regional titles, totaling 10 overall in program history.
 
Head Coach Dr. René Lyst has now led the program to back-to-back regional titles in her first two seasons at Brockport. At both regional championship meets, the team has crowned two event champions.
 
Brockport scored the highest of all the competing teams on the vault with a 48.225. Sydney Schumaker, the regional champion, led the way with her 9.800. Maren Eramo scored a big 9.700 for the fourth spot in the event.
 
Kyra FigurelliEmma Grace Sargent, and Lauren Blair all tied with a 9.575. All three joined a 6-way tie for the eighth best score on the vault.
 
The Golden Eagles did it once again on the bars, scoring the meet’s highest mark of 47.250. Sargent claimed her regional title with a 9.725 to hold the top spot. Coming in second on the event was teammate Taylor Bushey with a 9.675.
 
Senior Gabbi Gare scored a 9.450 to round out the top-10. Classmate Rachel Swick added a 9.300, while Eramo contributed her 9.100 to the team’s tally.
 
A strong day on the beam scored the second-best total at the regional championships. Only Rhode Island’s 48.475 bested Brockport’s 48.025. Schumaker nearly snagged a second regional title individually with a 9.825 on the beam. She took second, behind only a 9.850 from Ithaca’s Cameryn Nichols.
 
Natalie Galioto earned a top-five finish with her routine on the event. She tied for fourth with a 9.750. Olivia Stinnette posted a 9.550, Maya Pecoraro hit 9.500, and Emmie White rounded out the beam lineup with a 9.400.
 
Brockport’s best event, the floor exercise did not disappoint. With a 48.700 the team scored the highest for its third event of the meet. The squad put up three top-five scores, led by Maya Pecoraro and Kyra Figurelli’s 9.800 as the two tied for second place.
 
Emmie White finished just behind her teammates with a 9.775 for the event. Galioto joined the top-10 with her 9.700 routine on the day. Swick posted a 9.625 to add to the team’s event winning total.
 
At 192.200 the Golden Eagles defeated Springfield (189.150), Ithaca (189.050), Rhode Island (188.950), Cortland (188.075), and Ursinus (187.450). They earn one of the three team bids for nationals and will compete at NCGA National Championships on March 25th.
