Madison, Wis. – February 12, 2019 – Shadae Boone (Maple Grove, Minn.) of UW-Stout and Amanda Malo (Greenwood, Minn.) of Gustavus Adolphus were honored for their impressive performances this past week, as they earned Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Gymnast of the Week honors.
Boone was named the WIAC Specialist of the Week, while Malo earned WIAC All-Around Gymnast of the Week honors for the second time this season.
Boone, who was able to compete in only two meets due to injury last season, took two first-place finishes as UW-Stout defeated Winona State University (Minn.), 188.825-183.675, on Feb. 8. The 188.825 score is the third best UW-Stout score of all-time. Boone won the floor exercise with a personal-best score of 9.675 and the vault with a score of 9.650, becoming the first UW-Stout gymnast to compete a stuck layout Yurchenko full. Coming into the week, Boone was ranked second nationally on the vault. She also scored a personal-best in finishing sixth on the uneven bars (9.150).
Malo led the Golden Gusties in their dual meet against UW-Eau Claire on Feb. 9. She set a season-high in the all-around competition, winning the meet with a 37.650. This mark is also a career-high score outside of meets against Division I competition. In the path to winning the all-around title, Malo was a top-two finisher for the Gusties on every event. She finished third on vault with a 9.475, third on the uneven bars with a 9.300, fourth on the balance beam with a season-high 9.225 and won the floor exercise, tying her season-high of a 9.650. Malo’s effort helped the Gusties to their highest team score of the season by over a point, a 183.825.
