Bernardo and Hammond Clean Up WIAC Gymnast of the Week Honors

Madison, Wis. – February 20, 2019 – Jessica Bernardo (Millford, Mich.) and Kaira Hammond (Thornton, Colo.) of UW-Oshkosh were recognized for their impressive performances this past weekend, as the duo swept the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Gymnast of the Week honors, announced on Tuesday.

Bernardo, a junior, was named the WIAC All-Around Gymnast of the Week, while Hammond, a freshman, was the WIAC Specialist of the Week.

Bernardo finished fifth in the all-around competition as UW-Oshkosh placed third behind a pair of scholarship programs during a four-team meet at Seattle Pacific University (Wash.) on Feb. 15. Bernardo recorded a season best with her all-around score of 37.400. She also placed 11th in the floor exercise with a score of 9.575 and 16th on the uneven bars with a figure of 9.125. NCAA Division I United States Air Force Academy won the quadrangular with a score of 194.200, while Division II Seattle Pacific University finished second at 192.600. UW-Oshkosh placed third and UW-Whitewater placed fourth with scores of 189.100 and 185.025, respectively.

Hammond finished second on the balance beam and sixth on the uneven bars as UW-Oshkosh placed third behind a pair of scholarship programs during a four-team meet at Seattle Pacific University (Wash.) on Feb. 15. Hammond recorded season-best scores of 9.825 on the balance beam and 9.70 on the uneven bars. NCAA Division I United States Air Force Academy won the quadrangular with a score of 194.200, while Division II Seattle Pacific University finished second at 192.600. UW-Oshkosh placed third and UW-Whitewater placed fourth with scores of 189.100 and 185.025, respectively.
