Sklenar and Kowalik Sweep NCGA East Gymnast of the Week Honors

Springfield, Mass. – February 21, 2017 – For the second time in the last three weeks, Brockport’s Jen Sklenar (Canfield, Ohio) and Candis Kowalik (Warwick, R.I.) have been recognized by the National Collegiate Gymnastics Association (NCGA), and earned NCGA East Gymnast of the Week honors, announced on Tuesday.

Sklenar earned All-Around Gymnast of the Week honors for her outstanding performance this past Sunday in a dual meet with Cortland, while Kowalik was named the Specialist of the Week for the third time this season.

In her third time competing as an all-around gymnast, Sklenar continued to shine, placing first overall at the Brockport Stick it to Cancer meet against Cortland on Sunday. The senior turned in an overall score of 38.475, with her highest individual event on the vault, where she placed second with a score of 9.800. The Canfield, Ohio native pieced together three more strong events, taking third on the floor (9.675), third on the beam (9.575) and seventh on the bars (9.425).

Kowalik was impressive in the meet as well, scoring two season-high scores for the Golden Eagles on Sunday. The sophomore took first in the vault, with a score of 9.875 and also took first on the floor with a 9.800 routine. The Warwick, R.I. native also took 10th on the beam, with a score of 9.275.
