Springfield, Mass. – February 20, 2018 – Brockport’s Candis Kowalik (Warwick, R.I.) and Brittany Vasile (Erie, Pa.) have been recognized for their impressive performances this past weekend, as the duo earned National Collegiate Gymnastics Association (NCGA) East Gymnast of the Week honors, announced on Tuesday.
For the second-straight week, Kowalik was named the NCGA East All-Around Gymnast of the Week, while Vasile was tabbed the NCGA East Specialist of the Week.
Kowalik had a strong showing in only her second time competing as an all-around gymnast, scoring a 38.575 on the road against SUNY Cortland. The junior took third on both the beam and the floor, with a 9.850 on the floor and a 9.700 on the beam. Kowalik also took fifth on the bars with a 9.550 and placed eighth on the vault with a 9.475.
Vasile shined bright for the Golden Eagles this week in two separate meets, taking first on the floor in both competitions. The senior kicked off the weekend with a strong 9.850 on the floor in a home meet against Rhode Island College. Vasile topped her Saturday score on Sunday on the road against Cortland, earning a career-high 9.900.
